Luxury rivers cruise line Scenic has added new excursions to its 2022 European river cruise program.

Amongst the excursions are visits to Les Bassins de Lumieres in Bordeaux, France which is a former World War II submarine shelter that has been reimagined as a digital art installation; Motorworld in Cologne, Germany; and Floriade Expo 2022 in Almere, Netherlands.

Passengers onboard the 15 day Jewels of Europe river cruise, which sails between Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Budapest, Hungary can visit Motorworld where they can view former motorsports racing driver, Michael Schumacher’s personal collection of vintage classic cars, Formula 1 vehicles and enjoy the thrill of race simulators.

They can also explore the palace of Schloss Weikersheim in Mittenberg, Germany where they can go to the Knights Hall that dates back to the 17th century.

Meanwhile, the Rhine Highlights itinerary offers guests on the Rhine River a chance to visit Marksburg Castle, Koblenz, Germany where they will be taken on a guided tour.

Guests on board Scenic’s eight day, Windmills, Tulips and Belgian Delights itinerary which sails return from Amsterdam will have the opportunity to visit the international horticulture exhibition, Floriade Expo 2022.

Floriade is held once every ten years and this year’s event theme is Growing Green Cities, which will focus on plants from around the world. The event also features themed art, exhibits, live entertainment; and food and drink stalls.

Running from April 14 to October 9, the seventh International Horticultural Exhibition Floriade Expo will take place in Almere, about 30 minutes from Amsterdam.

Scenic guests will have a full day to explore the many attractions, gardens and exhibitions—where a celebration of green and sustainable technology will be the focus. New technologies for greenery, food, energy and health will be shown off at this living laboratory and will contribute to Floriade’s four sub-themes: Greening the City, Feeding the City, Healthying the City and Energizing the City. Lectures will be mixed with an array of attractions. Green bridges and a cable car will provide some of the modes of transport while live music and a range of dining options will also be on offer.

The five itineraries that include Floriade are the “Eight-day Windmills, Tulips & Belgian Delights with Floriade,” “10-day Rhine Highlights with Flourishing Floriade,” “14-day Windmills Tulips & Belgian Delights with Floriade, Bruges & London,” “17-day Romantic Rhine & Moselle with Flourishing Floriade,” and the “17-day Jewels of Europe with Flourishing Floriade.”
